American 6th plate of a British Officer based/visiting the US. Identified as John Lawlor of the British army who died in South Africa. John Lawlor was awarded the 1853 South Africa Medal which he would have been wearing in the dag if he had won it by this time. As a result, the dag is prior to 1853 (1850-52 likely).
6th Plt Dag – Plate is double hallmarked; Anson (New York) is the responsible daguerreian stamp and H.B.A. Eagle 40 stamp (Holmes Booth and Haydens Company, Waterbury, Connecticut) is the plate maker.
