A rare, large, important and early landscape daguerreotype. On a modern paper label attached to the object it says early daguerreotype (19" x 14.5") of Pantheon sent to Fox Talbot from France by Chevalier c1842.

The hand written label underneath the Chevallier label has illegible writing in brown ink only 25 June 184_? is legible. Beneath and hidden by the Chevalier label is an earlier label. Possibly from the person who took the photograph.
The backing has been opened at some stage as the remains of hanging bars are present.Laid paper brown tape 75mm wide wraps round from the front cover glass to the backing. It covers a blue paper backing.
