The original sculpture is by Johann Heinrich Dannecker (1758-1841). This sculpture was a tourist attraction in Frankfurt at Bethmann's Museum. This was a popular stop on the tourist trail. It often appeared in English guidebooks, novels and travel narratives, such as Anna Jameson's 'Sketches of Germany' (1832).
