Dokument-Nummer: obj 05050617

embossed stamp on the front of the plate, left edge "A. Schwabe Co" "Berlin". A record manufacturer "A. Schwabe, Berlin" cannot be found in the available literature. A Carl August Schwabe is listed as an employee of Johann George Hossauer. Hossauer silver-plated copper plates for the production of daguerreotypes on a large scale. To what extent the goldsmith Schwabe was able to mark plates under his name has yet to be checked. (Hossauer catalog p. 51)
