Samuel Sargent Pugh was an English Baptist minister and schoolmaster. He was minister of the New Baptist Chapel in Devizes, later setting up a school in his home. The purpose was to provide 'advanced education for boys'. In 1874 the school moved to Heathcote House on the Green, and by 1879 it had changed its name to Devizes Grammar School.
