Henry Lee had been a fabric retailer until retirement in 1857 when he took up photography and opened a studio with his brother Joseph. His brother was the artist John Ingle Lee. Henry's other two sons George and Henry established the famous Liverpool department store of George Henry Lee. Hannavy, Case Histories, p. 42 (last item).
