Landscape view in Rome of the ancient Porta Maggiore exterior with the Baker's Tomb. The two arched gateways alternate with three narrower arched entrances or windows each flanked by pilasters and topped with small pediments. The larger two gateways are infilled with more recent smaller entrances, each with a dark, closed arched door within a stone structure with crenellations. All the archways are surmounted by a wall with several courses. In front is the partial tomb monument of Marcus Vergilius Eurysaces the baker, a freedman. Two figures are seen at the base of this, one appears to be in uniform.
