The Daguerreobase Project at the Daguerreian Society Symposium in Austin
At the Daguerreian Society Symposium, due to be held from the 26th to the 29th of September 2014 in Austin, Texas, the Daguerreobase Project will also be presented. Every year the Daguerreian Society organises three days of meetings and workshops with leading international experts on the daguerreotype. This year the panel of guests will include a delegation of the Daguerreobase Project and the EDA (European Daguerreotype Association).
On Saturday September the 27th Sandra M. Petrillo, coordinator for Daguerreobase on networking and dissemination, and Femke IJsinga, coordinator for the Daguerreobase on content aggregation and aligning with Europeana, will explain the goals of the initiative to an American audience.
The speech will be entitled "Daguerreobase: The European Union Daguerreian Era Documentation Project" and it will be a richly illustrated presentation featuring a number of previously unpublished daguerreotypes, as well as images of historical daguerreotype equipment, kept in various public institutions and private collections. This material that was gathered during the development of the project provides an interesting insight into many different aspects of the daguerreotype era all over Europe. There will also be an overview of the initiatives that are being carried out by Daguerreobase; a virtual exhibition due to be published online on the website of Europeana at the end of October 2014 and the publication of the October issue of the Daguerreotype Journal.
At the symposium we will also present the European Daguerreotype Association (EDA). Looking for opportunities to collaborate and enforce our two sister organizations.
On the Daguerreian Society web site is avilable the final, printable symposium guide, including schedule.
